MARINE STUD REMOVAL
Foretract Engineering are able to mobilise at very short notice with a fully equipped vehicle (or by air freight as required). The primary equipment used is a portable metal disintegration machine. With this machine we are able to machine a square hole in the top of the broken portion of the stud; this is sometimes at the bottom of a deep clearance hole in the engine block. Once this is completed, the stud can usually be removed using a large impact gun to drive out the broken stud.Studs that are seized, due to severe corrosion, could “pick up” the threads on the engine block if forced out, To avoid this we use a precision electrode in our machine and collapse the stud leaving a serviceable thread in the engine block ready for the new stud.
- Both these methods of removal have two main advantages over conventional
drilling out the stud:
- Drilling can be inacurate when access and visibility are tight. If the drill is not in the centre it is possible to take out up to 1/3 of the threads in the hole. The machine is not affected by the hardness of the material. (We are able to burn through broken “Easy Outs” without problems!)

It should be noted that our equipment is specifically
designed by Foretract Engineering, to be portable
on board ships and
will always be accompanied
by an experienced technician.
