HMS Bulwark Refit Project, On-site Machining

Foretract Engineering have been fortunate enough to take part and complete the majority of the On-Site machining tasks on the recent HMS Bulwark refit.

It has been a rewarding experience for our technicians to work alongside Babcock’s project team over the entire refit, carrying out machining tasks from top to bottom

Starting at the top of the mast we used a milling machine and flange facer to prepare the main radar seating as shown in the picture below.

As well as the main radar seating we worked on many external decks and masts with our on-site machines ensuring a wide range of defensive equipment, scanners, sensors and davits were complete to within level and flatness tolerance.

Below decks we have milled compressor bed plates, faced hull penetrations and worked on various other pieces of equipment on board such as the steering gear and propellor shaft cowlings.

Over the full project our team have used various on-site machining equipment, skills, expertise and experience to overcome any situation that was required including some very tight tolerances.

It was a pleasure to work aboard HMS Bulwark and we look forward to seeing her set sail from Devonport when complete.
