Recent Engineering Activity
Our Foretract Technicians have recently been very active across the UK and Ireland carry out various tasks, enabling all customers involved to have either the piece of mind that we were on hand to tackle any issues during shutdowns, carry out routine onsite machining or a swift emergency breakdown response for broken bolts, studs and taps.
As well as carrying out some of the example work below we have been busy establishing relationships with major players within the Power generation and Gas turbine industries, offering onsite standby spark erosion – something necessary on a plant shutdown should a stud become seized while splitting turbine casings. A exciting time for the company as great relationships and trust from our customers is apparent.

Ferry Turbocharger
We had an emergency call from a ferry company operating between the UK and Ireland – when carrying out a routine turbocharger overhaul x6 M12 studs were snapped within the casing. Due to the hardness of the heated material drilling wasn’t an option. Our technicians attended and worked on an overnight run across to Ireland to spark erode the bolts out, preserving the threads in the casing. This enabled the turbo company to carry on with their overhaul in the morning.
Sub Sea Valve – Gun drill removal
A machine shop in the Glasgow area contacted us with the need to remove a stuck gun drill – the 3mm drill had snapped around 300mm down a hole – Insulating the electrode for the full depth on such a small hole proving to be a challenge but due to the technicians innovative solutions they were able to successfully spark the remaining drill bit away!

On site machining
Our technicians have been busy carrying out multiple on site machining jobs within Devonport dockyard – these have varied from smaller sea tubes on the ships hull to more recently certain radar seats. Ensuring the machining is within level and flatness tolerance is critical to the successful operation of the high tech equipment that is mounted once we have completed our work.
Snapped air conditioning studs
A rarity for us operating in central London – A customer contacted us with the need to remove a seized M10 stud from a condenser on an air conditioning unit on the roof of a tower block. The customer had previously attempted themselves and snapped a stud extractor in the middle. Therefore requiring spark erosion to burn through the extractor and remove the seized stud. A happy customer and even happier (and hopefully cooler!) office staff!.
